Our HONOREES
Graduated from EES in 1939 and returned as coach in 1952. He won a pair of state
football titles. Nationally recognized for his intramural programs.
He was a member of the 1950 state championship basketball team. He
returned to EES in 1960 and coached football, basketball. He started the track and field program at EES. He took his 1985 basketball team to the state finals.
Versatile athlete who starred at E.E. Smith in football, basketball, and baseball. He played football and baseball at Hampton University. He served as an assistant coach for the football and baseball teams before becoming the head coach of those teams at E.E. Smith. Later he served many years in administration for Cumberland County Schools and as athletic director at Fayetteville State University.
Starred in basketball, volleyball and track and field at EES. She went on to also
star at UNC-Pembroke. As coach, she guided her teams to conference titles in volleyball and basketball. Her 2020 basketball team shared the 3-A state title.
He was head football and basketball coach at EES. His team won the state basketball
title in 1950. He was also a long-time science teacher at EES.
Was a three sports player at EES. He played football, basketball, and baseball. He played basketball at Fayetteville State and was twice the team’s MVP. He coached basketball at EES from 1993-
99 with 185-62 record. His teams won three sectional titles.
Our HONOREES
He was a star quarterback for EES. He was a record setting quarterback at Michigan
State. He played professionally in the CFL. He spent many years coaching in Division1 college football programs and in the NFL.
He was an All-State selection as a two-way lineman his senior year at EES. He played at the University of North Carolina and in the NFL with Chicago, Arizona, Seattle, and the New York Giants.
While at EES he was named an All-American High School Linebacker, City County Player of the Year and All State Linebacker of the Year. He went on to star at Georgia Tech. First Fayetteville player to appear in a Super Bowl game as a member of the Los Angeles Rams.
He was a three-sport starter at E.E. Smith. He was All-State in football and basketball. He was quarterback for the famed 1966 Michigan State team which tied Notre Dame 10-10 in the “game of the century”. Those two teams were National Co-Champions of college football in 1966. He coached briefly in college before spending 36 years as an NFL assistant coach.
During his high school career he achieved all-conference honors, first team
All-Two Rivers Class 4-A honors, All-Cape Fear Region honors, and Cape Fear Region Player of the Year in 2002. He starred at North Carolina State. He played in the NFL with Kansas City and the
Carolina Panthers.
He was a three-sport star at EES who played at N.C. State and later with the
Indianapolis Colts.
Led his team to a 13-2 record and the state semi-finals in class 4-A football. Received all-conference honors in 1996 and 2nd team all-conference as a junior.
Three-year letterman in football, played three years of basketball and ran track for four years at EES. He played defensive end at the University of North Carolina and was drafted by The Cincinnati Bengals.
He played college football at Appalachian State where he made All-Conference,
and second team All-American. He also played in the NFL for Green Bay, Detroit, Denver, and Oakland.
He played running back at EES. He was a wide receiver at the University of North
Carolina and was drafted by Washington.
As a senior defensive tackle at EES, he posted 87 tackles and 10 sacks, receiving
honorable-mention All-state and All-Cape Fear Region honors. He was also on the wrestling team, finishing second in his weight class at the 1993 state meet. He played for Nick Saban at Michigan State.
He was drafted in the first round of the NFL draft by Minnesota. He also played with Miami and Dallas.
He played linebacker and tight end at EES. His senior year he earned all-conference, all-regional honors, and was conference defensive player of the year. He played at Wake Forest where he won the Butkus Award and professionally with Seattle and Oakland in the NFL.
Currently he is defensive assistant and linebacker coach for Seattle.
Three sport star at EES. He was captain of the baseball team his senior year. He
attended North Carolina Central and played halfback on the football team. He later served as the head football coach at NCC. He also coached for several Division 1 college programs and spent 14 years as an assistant coach in the NFL.
Star football player for EES. He played at North Carolina Central and briefly in
the NFL. He was later involved in local and state politics. A Cumberland County Middle School and the football stadium at Fayetteville State are named in his memory
He was All-ACC center at Wake Forest. He started two seasons with the Detroit Lions
He starred in football and track and field at EES. He was All-State in football his
senior year at EES. He attended North Carolina Central. In 1970, he was drafted in the first round of the NFL draft by Houston. He spent 14 seasons with San Diego. He was named to three consecutive Pro Bowls and to First team All-Pro in 1982.
